John deere 318 no spark.
318 p218 no spark during crank. I picked up a low hour (401) 318. It does not have spark during crank, but as you let the key spring back to run it will fire. If you play with it, it will eventually catch and run indefinitely. I tried a known good switch I had and got the same result. I have the wiring schematic my local dealer printed for me.
My 318 was running fine until I shut it off the other day and then when I tried to start it again, no spark to plugs. What happened? I checked the coil and it seems to have good resistance. Are there points on this Onan "P" series or is it electronic? (1988, 318 model). Ready for next step interring to figure out why my 318 won't start/turn over. Began some time ago with engine turning over but no fire. Good compression and spark to plugs. Drained gas, changed hoses and FF, pick up tubes, new battery. Turned over a couple of times then nothing. Replaced temperamental clutch switch. Hook the fuel pump back up and do this again. Hook the fuel line back up to the carb and see if it will start. DO NOT USE OXYGEN BOTTLE TO DO THIS, only use air compressor air.
